Archive film created for the exhibition “A French Dream – From the École to the Salon: The Beaux-Arts in 19th-Century Paris”, organized by the National Museum of China, the Centre national des arts plastiques, and the Beaux-Arts de Paris, with the support of the Embassy of France in China, the Jonathan KS Choi Foundation, and Culture & Art Cinquini.
The exhibition brings together around one hundred historical and modern works evoking the world of the French Beaux-Arts, from the French Revolution to the aftermath of the First World War, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the academic vitality and creativity of 19th- and 20th-century France.
Following a chronological narrative thread, the exhibition presents masterpieces from the collections of the Cnap and the Beaux-Arts de Paris, created by French and international artists, including several Chinese artists who studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
The film, screened in the first gallery of the exhibition, is composed of excerpts from the Pathé Gaumont Archives.
